Mini makeover

I was so patient and grew my hair out for years and years, what felt like eternity. I am used to changing my hair and playing with the color, the style...
After being au naturale I decided to change it up with some ombre highlights.
Here is my ombre transformation thanks to Whitney Williams at Artisan Salon in Sacramento.

Let the makeover begin.

Color done...

Transformation complete!

Thank you for my new look Whitney, this was just what I needed!

Halloween Hair

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays because it's the one time of year that my little 5 year old inside gets to play dress up in a wild way. I have to be honest...I don't really like spending a lot of money on my costume. I usually raid my little sisters closet, she has all kinds of wild things lurking around! Then I thrift shop. But the finishing touches that really pull together a costume for me is the hair and make-up. And so, until Halloween arrives, I am going to try and drop some blogging inspiration to help you add those amazing finishing touches that will take your costume from cheesy to perfection!
Today we look at hair:

This hair would be perfect if you wove some snake heads into it. Put gel in your hair while it is wet and twist into dreadlocks. Make sure you hair spray the ends to get it to stay, spray while it is wet, spray when it is drying, just spray! The twisting might take a while and I suggest asking for help from a wonderful friend. You could be a snake charmer or Medusa! How Fun!

Some wire and a ton of hair spray, then braid up the wire and you are set! WOW!

This is actually much easier to accomplish than you think. Strait or curly, this is do-able. You can put little twists down the middle of your hair and pin them down, leaving the ends sticking out. Then you can leave the ends strait, crimp them, or curl them. Voila!

This hair is impossible to do yourself, but I had to post a picture! Awesome!

This is insane and you might need a can or two of hair spray and a friend to help, but how fun!

Some of you might remember this hair style from Gwen Stefani. It is basically a french twist where you twist your hair from the bottom up to the front of your head, leaving you with the length to play with on the front. You can swipe it smooth across the front, you can fluff it up, or pin it to make bangs. But a twist like this always leaves a very high class vintage feel :) Lovely!

Perfect for the princess or pixie costume. This will add an unusual flair to the common costume!

Or you can take a common style that you are familiar with and then just make it bigger and more...well...Halloween!

Hair props should ALWAYS be encouraged during Halloween! Its the one time of year that you can just get wild with it :)

This is the perfect time to bust out your hot pink hair crimper from the 80's ladies. Play with extensions and texture! LOVE this!

And I just had to post this picture because what girl has not at some point wanted to be the bride of Frankenstein?!?! Her hair is Halloween magic!

Olivia Wilde's look Perfected

The hair style, the highlights, the tan, the eye make up, the lip color, the dress....Olivia is on fire! I absolutely love the hue of her lip color, it is perfectly matched to her coloring. It isn't distracting to her look and yet is somehow still bold. Walking that brilliant fashion tight rope with the perfect balance and seemingly greatest of ease. Olivia Wilde...I salute you!

Shenani-Sunday

Hello my loyal followers. All 15 of you : )! I am looking into new ideas to help spread the word about my blog and putting ideas together to make improvements. I will be taking more of my own pictures, and sharing a little bit more about who I am in order to make this a more personal experience. I am also putting together a Revolve Clothing Boutique where you can visit to see some fashion items that I own or would love to own (coming up in a few weeks). Many new and improved things to come and I hope to make my blog a wonderful virtual location where you can come to relax and indulge. If you have any requests or ideas, please let me know. I am open! In the mean time, I thank you for your help in spreading the word about my blog. And I hope your Sunday is a beautiful one!!!

This is a really old picture of Shakira, but I have to post it because I absolutely LOVE her hair here! Hopefully she had a stylist do this one, or her wrists would be super strong from all that twisting. If you would like to replicate this style, make sure you have the right product and a helpful friend! photo from: hairstyles-clips.blogspot.com
This picture is cut off funny. Sorry folks. But what cool and easy hair styles on these models. You could probably just take a shower at night, put in some product and let it naturally dry and then braid and touch up the front randomly with a curling iron to smooth or not! And this disheveled look is so in, I think thanks to the Olsen twins. photo from: tattoo-kehas.blogspot.com
And saving the best for last....

This is one of my favorite Bloggers, her blog is all about her own fashion style and it is awesome! Check it out (click link). Photo from: http://5inchandup.blogspot.com/

Love the white hair look!

photo from: http://www.buamai.com/image/39502
I absolutely love this picture. I love the wig, I love the makeup and the outfit is a seemingly wonderful nod to vintage 1940's/1950's fashion. One more fun picture for your Fun Sunday : )

Rewease dah sekwet weapoooon.....(please say aloud in funny sinister voice)

Long, Long ago...before I was the fashionable blogger that I am now. I used to have platinum blonde hair, it was beautiful, I had extensions that flowed in the wind and color that shined in the sun like white gold.
I have to admit that I not only bleached my hair but I straitened my natural curls too, ouch! After years of hair torture, changing my hair color and putting in highlights or lowlights, my hair could take no more! It was a sad sight, my curls were droopy and frizzy and I seemed to constantly be doing damage control on my ends. I did a pretty good job of styling it so that the damage was hidden from sight as much as possible, but my secret would not be safe for long. I knew it was getting bad when it got to the point where I could not allow my hair to naturally dry (unless you like that finger fresh from socket look), it was SO damaged. I knew I had to make some changes!
I sulked and cried, I even threw a few fits on the floor banging my fists in protest, but I knew that I had to give up my platinum ways for good!
After growing out my roots for as long as I could stand it, I hesitantly went to my trusted color professional, dragging my feet through the door. And told her I wanted to get as close to my natural color as possible, from what little she could see of it.
My life was about to change in a way you might think is silly and insignificant, but being blonde was part of my identity. I was blonde from birth and as I got older and my hair started to get darker, somewhere along the way I decided to fight the fade to the dark side. And so I did, with a little help from my local color professional and some not-so-small fee's I was a blonde California girl.
I sat in the chair, told her my decision and she smiled at me from the corner of her mouth..."Are you sure honey, there is no going back once this is all said and done?!?!"
With a wash, wash, wash, and a snip, snip, snip; it was all over. "I knew this was the right decision!" I reminded myself. She spun me around, and I was a new woman. I looked completely....DIFFERENT! Not bad, (she got the color just right) just different.
Little did I know that this would be the beginning of my journey, not the end. There was some serious damage control left to do!
And that's when it happened! What you ask? I stumbled upon the sekwet weapooon....Literally! It had fallen off the shelf in the isle and I almost tripped on it coming around a corner after looking for something to cheer me up and help me fade into this dark side I was embracing, luckily I was sulking after my hair appointment and dragging my feet or I might have face planted.
Behold! :
Link to item at Ulta.com
What a wittle bottle you say!?!? I love the oil from this collection because it doesn't leave my hair oily as you would ass-ume a hair oil would. BUT NO! I have to say that every product from this line is a good choice, if you are in a recovery program like myself (one day at a time, keep on keepin' on), or if you are just trying to maintain the health of your hair; either way this little bottle will SAVE YOUR LIFE!
(ppppppssst. I have to admit that I even use this on dry skin, it works wonders.)
I am proud to say that I have been clean and sober from "the bleach juice" for over a year now. My hair is healthier and my curls have sprung back to life, minus the frizz! WHAT A RECOVERY PROGRAM! I have to admit that my sekwet weapooon smells good too : ) Deeee-vine!
And, for another confession.... I am quite enjoying myself on the dark side!

Theda Bara the 1920's Original Vamp

Theda Bara was an American silent film actress, one of the most popular of her era and one of cinemas earliest sex symbols. Nicknamed "The Vamp" because she played so many femme fatale roles, which became a popular slang term for a sexually predatory woman.
Theda completed more than 40 films, but complete prints of only 6 still exist.
Married in 1921 to British-born American film director, Charles Brabin. It is claimed that her husband didn't consider it proper for his wife to have a career, and so Theda didn't make any more appearances after her marriage. Theda has a star on the Hollywood walk of fame.

Traditional Hairstyles of the 1920's Flappers

I cannot give tribute to Flapper hair without paying notice to the ah-mazing hats worn in the 20's. They were a common sight to see and an major fashion staple of the times. photo from: fashion-era.com

Irene Castle was a renowned ballroom dancer who some believed started the "bob" trend when she cut her hair off in 1915. You can just see in her expression, like she is inspired and is going to create something that will blow your mind. I love how her eyes say so much! photo from: http://www.zimbio.com/1920%27s+Hairstyles
Louise Brooks again. She is breathtaking, I just cant get enough of her, there is something about her. photo from: heartofshakespeare.tumblr.com
As you can see, not all women choose to have "the bob"and yet still their style is very distinct and fitting with the times. photo from: adorevintage.proboards.com
